Renewable Energy for a Large Population

The wind turbine challenge consisted of my team receiving a scenario which describes us as a team of professional engineers who were contracted to design a wind turbine for a new farm in Wolfe Island, Kingston ON. The task was to design a wind turbine blade capable of generating large amounts of electric power for the neighboring Kingston area. In order to generate large amounts of energy the goal is to take advantage of the wind pressures in the area, this causes my team to design a turbine blade that minimizes inertia to maximize efficiency. The wind turbine also had to be durable in order to withstand the weather of the Kingston area.

Designing a Sterilization Container for a Surgical Tool

In Project Two, my team worked to design a system for securely transferring a surgical instrument to an autoclave for sterilization. This project introduced me to the principles of rapid prototyping (3D printing) and physical computing. As being part of a modeling team, I designed and prototyped a container such that it can securely hold a surgical instrument in place during transfer. Throughout the project, we explored the conceptual design and preliminary design phases of the Engineering Design Process and demonstrated the functionality of our design to our Instructional Assistant Interns during a project interview.

3D Printed Container Design

3D printing was a relatively new skill that I got the opportunity to develop during this project. In order to print out the container prototype we used the PrusaSlicer software and then exported our G-code so that it can be printed.
